Step 1: Submit Your Order

Place your unlock order online or contact our team directly. We'll confirm compatibility and provide shipping instructions for your DME module(s).

Step 2: Ship Your DME to Us, or directly to Finland.

Carefully remove the DME from your 2020+ BMW or Supra and ship it to our facility using the carrier of your choice. We recommend insured, trackable shipping for peace of mind. You also have the option to ship your DME directly to Finland. Upon purchasing the unlock from us, kindly request that you want to ship your DME directly to Finland. We'll provide the shipping label via e-mail along with precise instructions on how to properly prepare and ship your DME

Step 3: FEMTO Unlock Process

Once received, we will ship your DME to FEMTO to perform the unlock on your MG1 or MD1 ECU. This decrypts the factory lock and opens up tuning access for BM3, MHD, Ecutek, and other software platforms. This process usually takes 1-3 business days.

Step 4: Verify and Return

We verify the unlock has been completed and have FEMTO ship it directly to you. Your return shipment is fully insured with DHL. The typical turnaround time is 7–10 business days from the day we receive your unit. If your vehicle is our possession, we await delivery of the DME so it can be installed.

Step 5: Reinstall and Flash

Once you receive your unlocked DME, reinstall it and begin tuning using your preferred software. You now have full access to your ECU’s performance potential.

Step 6: Tune, Drive, and Enjoy

Your car is now ready to be flashed with custom maps. Whether you're adding power, refining drivability, or going full race-mode, your unlocked DME gives you full tuning freedom.

How long does the FEMTO Unlock take?

The average turnaround time is 7–10 business days once we receive your DME. Due to shipping logistics occasionally out of our control, we cannot guarantee turnaround time. It may be 10–14 days. If you're looking for someone to "guarantee a timeline" – please use another company for the unlock.

Can I ship my DME directly to Finland?

Yes. Before purchase, contact us to request the direct-to-FEMTO option and we’ll send you a DHL shipping label with instructions.

Will the DME come back ready for tuning?

Yes. Your DME will return fully unlocked and compatible with BM3, MHD, Ecutek, and other tuning platforms.

Which ECUs are supported?

Femto Unlock supports MG1 and MD1 ECUs typically found in 2020+ BMWs and Toyota Supras. Contact us if you’re unsure about compatibility.

Do you charge an additional fee if I bring my vehicle to you?

No. Unlike our competitors who do charge extra, we do not. Please note, if you request your vehicle to remain inside our climate controlled, secure facility, an appointment will be required. We'll do our best to accomodate your timeline.

Do I have to purhcase a flash tune license at the same time of the unlock?

If you intend to run Bootmod3 - yes a flash tune license must be purchased at the same time you purchase the unlock.

What Does the Custom ROM Option Do?

Choosing the Custom ROM unlock enables advanced tuning features like map switching, flex fuel support, and other software-driven enhancements — if your vehicle supports them. It's ideal for drivers who want greater control and functionality beyond standard tuning.

What Is a Standard FEMTO Unlock (Without Custom ROM)?

The standard unlock gives you access to run OTS (off-the-shelf) maps only — ideal for customers not looking to use advanced features like flex fuel or map switching. This is the simpler path for those sticking with predefined tuning setups.

In many cases, it also allows you to revert your DME to a stock file (often called Stage 0), and then switch to a different tuning platform such as from MHD to BM3 — however, this is not guaranteed. Compatibility can vary based on your vehicle and software version, so we strongly recommend confirming with us if this function is critical for your build.

Do I need a FlexFuel Sensor to run E85?

Yes. Contact us to determine which flex fuel sensor is the best fit for your application.

How do I know if I need to purchase two unlocks for my BMW?

Certain BMW models, such as the M550i, M5, X5M & X6M, use a twin-DME setup—meaning your vehicle has two separate ECU units. If your vehicle has two DMEs, you’ll need to purchase a separate unlock for each one. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us with your VIN and we’ll confirm whether your car has one or two DMEs.

Are there any 2020+ DME's that cannot be unlocked?

Yes, at the moment all Gen 3 B58's cannot be unlocked using FEMTO. If you're unsure if your B58 is a Gen 3, feel free to send us your VIN and we can confirm if your B58 is a Gen 2 or Gen 3.
