BMW S68 Race Series Engine Build - ZNM Performance
ZNM Performance Race Series Engine Build Program
Introducing our BMW S68 engine program—engineered for owners of the newest M-powered twin-turbo V8s who demand advanced engineering, long-term durability, and motorsport-grade execution. This page applies to all current S68 variants including the G90 M5, G99 M5, G70 M760i, G07 X7 M60i, and XM models equipped with the 4.4L mild-hybrid V8.
The BMW S68 is a twin-turbocharged 4.4L V8 with a hot-vee layout, direct injection, and integrated 48V hybrid assist. While robust from the factory, the combination of higher cylinder pressures, aggressive mapping, and hybrid torque fill demands careful component selection and machining precision when power levels are increased.
That’s where our S68 engine build program comes in. Every S68 is disassembled to the bare block, precisely measured, and rebuilt in-house with forged internals, o-ringed deck machining, and optional Darton sleeve installs for customers targeting extreme power goals. Whether you're building a high-boost street monster, track-focused setup, or roll-race application, our Race Series S68s are engineered for consistent, reliable power delivery under stress.
Our facility in Pompton Lakes, NJ builds engines for customers across the U.S. and internationally. All engines are fully disassembled, measured, and assembled in-house with final clearances precisely set by our team. Please inquire about international shipping options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can the stock S68 engine handle 900+ HP reliably?
A: While the S68 has a strong closed-deck block and improved architecture, sustained power over 850 HP introduces risk of ringland cracking, head lift, or rod bearing wear. Our Race Series builds resolve those risks using motorsport-grade internals and machining.
Q: Do I need to sleeve my S68 block?
A: Sleeving is recommended for engines with bore damage or customers targeting 1000+ HP, especially when using large turbos or nitrous.
Q: Are camshaft upgrades available?
A: At this time, there are no off-the-shelf billet camshafts for the S68. However, we offer billet regrind services for custom lift/duration profiles on a core-exchange basis.
Q: What head stud options are available?
A: ARP Custom Age 625+ Head Stud Kits are available for the S68.
Q: What bearings do you use and how are clearances set?
A: We use race-grade ACL and King bearings and measure every journal and shell manually using micrometers and bore gauges. Clearances are set based on your oil viscosity, RPM ceiling, and intended boost level—not generic charts.
