BMW S54 Race Series Engine Build - ZNM Performance
ZNM Performance Race Series Engine Build Program
Introducing our rebuilt BMW S54 engine program—crafted for enthusiasts who demand performance, precision, and reliability. At the heart of our program is a commitment to excellence, where every S54 engine is meticulously disassembled, inspected, and rebuilt using high-quality OEM or upgraded components. The absolute worst thing you can do is source a used S54 and just drag and drop it into the engine bay. Throughout our 30+ years of experience in the industry, we know the weak points of the S54 and simply replacing a blown engine with a used one is a recipe for disaster. We have sourced good cores and keep them in stock ready to go.
Our facility in Pompton Lakes, NJ builds engines for customers across the U.S. and internationally. All engines are fully disassembled, measured, and assembled in-house with final clearances precisely set by our team. Please inquire about international shipping options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is it okay to drop in a used S54 engine?
A: We strongly advise against it. Most used S54s are ticking time bombs due to VANOS contamination, worn bearings, and poor maintenance history. Our builds ensure you start with a clean, measured foundation.
Q: What pistons and bearings do you use?
A: We stock 87mm and 87.5mm forged pistons. Bearing options include Genuine BMW, King, and ACL depending on your application and tolerance goals. ARP main and head studs are standard in every build.
Q: Can I increase displacement?
A: Yes. We offer stroker kits that can take your S54 out to 3.3–3.5L. Sleeving is available for aggressive bore or extreme boost builds.
Q: Are upgraded camshafts worth it?
A: Absolutely—especially for track or high-RPM builds. We offer Schrick camshaft packages, but DLC rocker arms are required. We can spec the setup to your powerband and use-case.
Q: Do you ship internationally?
A: Yes. We have shipped S54 builds to Canada, Europe, and Asia. Crating and freight logistics are handled in-house—contact us for a quote.
