BMW M50/M52 Race Series Engine Build - ZNM Performance
ZNM Performance Race Series Engine Build Program
Introducing our BMW M50/M52 engine program—built for enthusiasts seeking to revitalize BMW’s early-90s inline-6 architecture with modern forged components and precision machining. This page applies to all M50 and M52 engines, including M50B25, M50B25TU (VANOS), M52B28, and M52B25 variants.
These engines feature robust iron blocks (M50, early M52) or lightweight aluminum variants (M52 w/ Nikasil or Alusil), DOHC cylinder heads, and solid tuning potential. Common issues include worn rod bearings, failed head gaskets, oil consumption, and VANOS unit degradation at high mileage.
That’s where our M50/M52 engine build program comes in. Every engine is completely disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and precision-machined. We offer forged internals, cylinder head upgrades, and bottom-end reinforcement to ensure your M5x engine delivers long-lasting, reliable power for naturally aspirated or turbocharged setups.
Our facility in Pompton Lakes, NJ builds engines for customers across the U.S. and internationally. All engines are fully disassembled, measured, and assembled in-house with final clearances precisely set by our team. Please inquire about international shipping options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can the M50 or M52 be built for boost?
A: Absolutely. The M50’s iron block and the reinforced aluminum M52 variants respond extremely well to turbocharging. With forged internals, ARP hardware, and proper tuning, we've supported M50/M52 builds making over 700whp.
Q: What limits the factory M50/M52 at high RPM?
A: Factory rod bolts, valve springs, and VANOS actuation can suffer above 7000 RPM. Our builds address these weaknesses with upgraded hardware, valve springs, and optional VANOS delete or single-VANOS optimization setups.
Q: Do you rebuild my original engine or supply a donor?
A: We can rebuild your original M50/M52 engine or source a donor core if needed. We offer full coordination for remote builds and long-distance shipping options.
Q: Can I daily drive a Race Series M50/M52?
A: Yes. Our Race Series engines are engineered for OEM-like drivability with increased durability. They’re perfect for street builds, track days, or high-power weekend warriors.
