Also known as brake discs, rotors are essential parts of your vehicle's braking system. When you press the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure travels through the system to the calipers. The caliper pistons then push the brake pads against the rotors, generating friction that slows and stops the vehicle. Brake rotors are considered routine maintenance items; they either need to be machined or, more commonly, replaced when they become too thin, develop pulsations, or suffer damage from worn brake pads. It's generally recommended to replace rotors and pads together to ensure optimal performance.
SHW is a Tier-1 OEM supplier that designs and manufactures brake rotors directly for BMW’s production lines. They collaborated with BMW Motorsport in the early 1990s to develop advanced performance rotor technology, which became standard on M-series vehicles. Even though these parts are sold under the BMW brand, SHW is the actual manufacturer behind many of the factory-installed and BMW Motorsport-labeled rotors.

SHW Performance is the high-performance aftermarket brand of SHW AG, a German brake-disc specialist with roots dating back to 1365. In January 2020, SHW Brake Systems launched SHW Performance to begin selling its premium two-piece, lightweight “pin‑drive” rotors—previously reserved for OEMs—directly to consumers, coinciding with the opening of its US branch in Irvine, California . These rotors are manufactured at SHW’s German foundries, undergo in-house R&D, machining, and quality control, and meet OEM standards for high-performance applications on brands such as BMW, Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes.
